The priest, accused of 17 counts of sex abuse and corruption of minors, denied that the Cardinal questioned his Foundation following the release of the written statement made by the Bishops' Council of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires.

"He (Bergoglio) never let go of my hand, he's at my side like always, and the written communication of the Bishops' Commission doesn't have anything to do with me," Julio César Grassi told Infobae.com that the Cardinal said to him.

The priest stressed that a clarification was made today about the statement released by the Bishops' Conference of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires on May 21, 2009 to the Catholic News Agency of Argentina, pointing out that it "refers solely to the situation that was provoked at the Saint Joseph the Worker Home, part of the Happy Children Foundation in the neighborhood of Chacarita.”

The clarification came about as a result of "the interpretation of some media outlets concerning father Julio César Grassi's relationship with the Church, in connection with the Court of Moron."

The new declaration made by the curia of Buenos Aires emphasized that the revision of the statement "was not intended whatsoever to be enmeshed in any other court case."
