Audit Records
Excerpts from Documents about Newly Accused Priests: Page Two

Diocese of Manchester and New Hampshire Attorney General
Released March 7, 2009

Click the excerpts to view each complete allegation file. These excerpts are intended to introduce you to the audit records and the allegations against priests who are newly accused in this document release. The excerpts are not exhaustive. These audit files do not state or imply that individuals facing allegations are guilty of a crime or liable for civil claims. The reports contained in the audit record are merely allegations. The U.S. legal system presumes that a person accused of or charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. Similarly, individuals who may be defendants in civil actions are presumed not to be liable for such claims unless a plaintiff proves otherwise. Admissions of guilt or liability are not typically a part of civil or private settlements.

Note from BishopAccountability.org: Lamontagne's 1/28/04 memo is not consistent with the assignments for Rev. George St. Jean that are listed in the Official Catholic Directory. The 1959 and 1960 Directories list St. George as a Diocese of Manchester priest assigned to the Novitiate of Our Lady of Grace in Colebrook NH. The 1961 and 1962 Directories list him as a Diocese of Norwich priest assigned to the Immaculate Retreat House in Willimantic CT. These listings indicate that St. Jean was not "a Massachusetts religious priest," as Lamontagne claims. On January 1, 1960, he was a Manchester priest; by January 1, 1961, he was a Norwich priest. According to the Directory, St. Jean moved from Manchester to Norwich sometime during 1960, probably by the fall of that year.
