After working in 1976-1982 at St. Aloysius parish in Jersey City in the Newark archdiocese, where he is indexed and listed in the Official Catholic Directory for 1977-1982, Sita was arrested on September 15, 1982, pleaded guilty in 1983 to sexual contact with a minor, and received 5 years probation. In 1983 he was send to Foundation House in Albuquerque NM. During his treatment by the Servants of the Paraclete in Albuquerque, the Official Catholic Directory for 1983 lists Sita as an unassigned Newark priest, whereabouts unspecified. In 1983, Sita changed his name to Gerald Howard, and was assigned to SS. Peter and Paul parish in Boonville MO in the Jefferson City diocese. The Official Catholic Directory for 1984 has no index entry or listing for Rev. Carmen Sita, but it does list Rev. Gerald Howard at SS. Peter and Paul. Howard is not indexed or listed in subsequent Official Catholic Directories.
