Diocese Named in Two More Civil Lawsuits

[Greenfield MA] Recorder
March 21, 2003

GREENFIELD - Two more civil lawsuits were filed against the Diocese of Springfield by lawyer John J. Stobierski on behalf of two men who say they were sexually abused in the 1960s by priests.

The suits, filed in Hampden County Superior Court, accuse the diocese of negligence and liability for failing to protect the plaintiffs from such acts.

"Adam Doe," now 52, of Chicopee, is suing Cathedral High School in Springfield and the diocese for failing to protect him in 1966 and 1967 against alleged molestation by the late Rev. Karl Huller, a former teacher, spiritual leader and guidance counselor at Cathedral High School.

The lawsuit has been filed under an alias to protect the privacy of a victim of alleged sexual abuse. It is the second lawsuit filed by Stobierski that accuses Huller of molesting boys. Norman D. LaPolice, of Jamestown, R.I., filed a lawsuit against Huller in December.

The Springfield Diocese issued a statement responding to the new lawsuits on Thursday afternoon. Diocese spokesman Mark Dupont said the Diocese "has no knowledge, other than the unsubstantiated allegation made last autumn of any such incidents" involving Huller.
