Laicization Update
Thomas M. Kohler

Archdiocese of Philadelphia
[June 2005 ?]

http://www.archdiocese-phl.org/protection/Updates/note_kohler.htm

The Holy See has notified Cardinal Justin Rigali that the request of Thomas M. Kohler to be removed from the clerical state has been granted.

In response to a credible accusation of misconduct involving a minor, Thomas Kohler was removed from active ministry in 1994. Subsequently, Thomas Kohler sought removal from the clerical state.

Thomas Kohler functioned as a priest of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia from June 1968 to June 1985, during which time he served in the following parishes:

- Saint Charles Borromeo, Drexel Hill;
- Our Lady of Good Counsel, Southampton;
- Saint Jerome, Philadelphia;
- Saint Dominic, Philadelphia;
- Saint Callistus, Philadelphia;
- Saint Charles Borromeo, Bensalem;
as well as Chaplain, Boy Scouts of America.

Removal from the clerical state means that in accord with canon law, these priests are no longer incardinated in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and are unable to function as priests anywhere.
We encourage anyone who wishes to make a report of sexual abuse of a minor to call the Victims Assistance Coordinators at 215-587-3880.
