Suit Accuses Two of Sexual Abuse
New England News in Brief

Boston Globe
August 5, 1993

A former altar boy at St. Theresa's Church in West Roxbury has filed a lawsuit charging that a Roman Catholic priest had sexually abused him when he was between the ages of 7 and 14. Robert Costello, now 31 and a resident of Washington, also alleged that he had been sexually abused about the same time by a Boy Scout troop leader. The suit names the archbishop of Boston, but not the priest, John Cotter, who has since died, as a defendant. Also named as defendants are the Boy Scouts of America and troop leader William Reynolds of West Roxbury. Laurence E. Hardoon, an attorney for Costello, said the alleged abuse by Father Cotter occurred between 1968 and 1975 on parish property, and abuse by Reynolds allegedly occurred between 1969 and 1976 during camping trips.
