BOSTON -- The Rev. Leo E. Pollard, 81, a member of the Society of Jesus and a teacher and hockey coach at Boston College High School, died Sunday at Campion Center in Weston.

From 1941 to 1944 he was a teacher of German at Boston College High School and coached its hockey team for many years.

He worked in ministry at the Jesuit retreat house in Gloucester from 1967 to 1969 when he returned to Boston Colleg High School. He was moderator of the Father's Club until 1991 after which he did private tutoring in English and Latin until 1997, when due to failing health he entered the Campion Health Center in Weston.

Two years ago, on the 50th anniversary of his ordination, the Rev. Leo E. Pollard, S.J. Scholarship Fund was established at Boston College High School, a fitting memorial of his loyalty and dedication to the school and its students.

Father Pollard was a graduate of Boston College High School and Weston College.

He is survived by a sister, Frances H. Cosgrove of Cape Elizabeth, Maine; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and many cousins.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Ignatius Church in Newton. Burial will be in the Jesuit Cemetery at Campion Center in Weston.

His body will lie in state from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Boston College High School in Dorchester.

Arrangements were made by the Brady & Fallon Funeral Home in Jamaica Plain.
