WAVERLY, Ky.--The Rev. Joseph Robert Willett, 59, of Waverly died Tuesday at Lourdes hospital in Paducah.

A native of Cincinnati, Mr. Willett was ordained Feb. 24, 1968, at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Fancy Farm. He attended St. Mary College in St. Mary and Theological College in Chicago. He served as pastor of several churches, including St. Charles in Bardwell, St. Denis in Fancy Farm, St. Mary of the Fields in La Center and St. Francis de Sales and Rosary Chapel, both in Paducah. He served as associate pastor at Sts. Peter and Paul in Hopkinsville, St. Stephen in Cadiz and others in Owensboro, and was administrator at churches in St. Lawrence, Morganfield and Waverly.

He served many years as diocesan priests council and dean.

Surviving are his mother, Anna Willett of Fancy Farm; three brothers, Sam Willett, Donnie Willett and Tom Willett, all of Mayfield; and four sisters, Nancy L. Towery of Mayfield, and Joyce Hayden, Barbara Wilson and Rebecca Higdon, all of Fancy Farm.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Harold Willett; and one sister.

Friends may call from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Agnes Church in Uniontown where a liturgy will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Jerome Church in Fancy Farm. Burial will be in St. Jerome Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Jerome Church. Prayers will be at 7 p.m.

Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield is handling local arrangements.
