Retired Priest Faces More Abuse Allegations

Milford Daily News
July 11, 2003

FRANKLIN — The attorney for two men suing former St. Mary's priest Anthony Buchette for sexual abuse said additional people are now alleging the retired priest molested them.

"There are some other claims that we have as well but we haven't formally issued notice of (them)," Quincy attorney William T. Kennedy said.

Kennedy said he will release the names of the people within the next week.

"I will send a press release," he said.

Kennedy filed suit on behalf of two unidentified men, one of whom lives in Franklin, in Suffolk Superior Court in Boston on May 30. The now-grown former parishoners of St. Mary's Church allege Buchette, 72, abused them when they were adolescents in the 1970s, Kennedy said. Buchette served at St. Mary's Church from the late-1960s to the mid-1970s.

When asked in June if he abused the men, Buchette said he "can't remember." Contacted yesterday in his home in Lynn, Buchette declined to comment on the progression of the case.
