Father William Finnerty

Kansas City
October 18, 2009

Please remember Father William Finnerty, Archdiocesan Priest, whose funeral was held last Monday at Cure of Ars Church. Father Bill served as “Senior Associate Pastor” here at St. Patrick’s for several years prior to 1995. Father Finnerty will be remembered for being a wonderful pastor of several parishes, including St. Rose of Lima and St. Mary/ St. Anthony, and for being the leader who greatly expanded the Services of Catholic Charities to meet the needs of people in the 21 counties of northeast Kansas. Father Bill had both great vision and deep compassion. He was an effective fundraiser, combining Government monies with our Christmas Collections and the proceeds of the Snowball Dinner (which he originated) and other donations to bring the blessings of Catholic Charities to countless numbers of people of all faiths or no faith. Always Catholic Charities was the face of the Catholic Church and I am sure drew many people into the Church through its generous service to those in need. May God bless Father with eternal life. “Whatever you do for the least of my brothers and sisters…you do for Me.”
