Navota Advance

June, 1986

A Novato priest was arrested yesterday afternoon for investigation of a sexual crime against an 11-year-old boy. The Rev. Arthur Manuel Cunha, 39, was arrested by Novato police and booked into Marin County Jail in lieu of $7,500 bail. Novato Police Chief Charles Brobeck said the arrest culminated an investigation that began with a request from Pacifica police. He explained that the Pacifica police had received a report of suspicious behavior involving a man and boy from a waitress in a restaurant in that city. Cunha has been an associate pastor at Our Lady of Loretto since January, 1985. The Novato church was the first assignment after being ordained in December of 1984. Before joining the priesthood, he was a teacher in the Fremont school system.
