Son of a German father (building trades) and an Irish (show-biz) mother, grew up in St. Pascal Parish (four years ahead of Cardinal George). He attended Quigley and St. Mary of the Lake Seminaries. He was ordained a priest by Cardinal Meyer in 1959. His priestly assignments include: St. Gregory Church, Queen of Angels Church, St. Joseph, Wilmette, St. Francis Xavier, Wilmette. He was pastor of St. Monica Parish on the city's northwest side for 7 years. He was principal of St. Benedict High School for 17 years. During his years as principal, Father Klein was the district director of non-public schools of Illinois for the North Central Accrediting Association of Catholic Secondary Schools for the Archdiocese. He also appointed bat boys for the Chicago Cubs. He began his retirement last July after 45 years of active ministry for the Archdiocese of Chicago.
