Fr. David King, a Jesuit for 66 of his 84 years, died on St. Ignatius Day, July 31, 2002 in Spokane of a cardiac

arrest. He grew up in Portland and Seattle, and taught at Marquette High School in Yakima, Seattle Prep,

Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma and Jesuit High School in Portland for 25 years. Fr. King was a devout and observant

religious, who loved community life

and reminiscing about colorful characters, Jesuit and others, of former

days. A traditional and gentlemanly man, Fr. King would touch his hat and nod a pleasant greeting while walking

to the bus stop on his way to celebrate Mass at a local parish. He never drove a car, but used public transportation

instead.
