A private, closed-door meeting was held this afternoon between Springfield Bishop Timothy McDonnell and Father James Scahill. Last week Bishop McDonnell sparked a firestorm of controversy when he said outspoken parish priest James Scahill was doing as much damage to the Diocese as former priest and convicted child molester Richard Lavigne. The Bishop has since apologized to the victims for any pain caused by his comments. Today's meeting between McDonnell and Scahill was scheduled before this latest turn of events. The Diocese, Bishop McDonnell, and Father Scahill all said they would not comment on today's meeting because it is private.
