CHICAGO (WBBM Newsradio 780) -- On this Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent, a couple of groups are encouraging Francis Cardinal George to do a better job of handling priest sex abuse cases.

WBBM's Bernie Tafoya reports Voice of the Faithful has sent a letter to the cardinal. The letter commends the cardinal for taking responsibility for the mishandling of the most recent priest predator case, the case of Fr. Daniel McCormack and for meeting with parishioners from McCormack's old parish, St. Agatha on the West Side.

But, the group says the cardinal has not done enough to protect children and may have been responsible for one or two more boys being abused by not taking Fr. McCormack out of ministry sooner than he did.

Voice of the Faithful spokeswoman Sandra Stilling-Seehausen says its almost criminal the way the cardinal mishandled the McCormack case.

Stilling-Seehausen says,"we are not calling for cardinal's resignation...but we do want him to know how serious this is...we're just not sure he gets it yet."

Meanwhile, some parishioners of St. Francis Xavier Church in LaGrange plan a candelight vigil as they call on the archdiocese to better handle priest predator cases.
