Colorado's three Catholic bishops on Friday endorsed legislation that would allow criminal charges against perpetrators of child sexual abuse regardless of when the alleged actions took place.

The church initially opposed House Bill 1088 because it also lifted the statute of limitations for civil lawsuits involving child sexual abuse.

But that provision was dropped, satisfying the bishops' concerns. The Colorado Catholic Conference still has problems with two other bills - Senate Bill 143 and House Bill 1090 - that could expose the church to a flood of lawsuits.
