A Chesapeake preacher was arrested Tuesday on charges of sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl at his church and at a house he was remodeling.

Timothy Charles Edmonds, 34, allegedly abused the girl multiple times at a house at 11937 MacCorkle Ave. and the Chesapeake Apostolic Church, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court by Cpl. L.G. O'Bryan of the West Virginia State Police Quincy detachment.

Police first learned of the abuse when the girl's parents presented a letter she wrote detailing intimate kissing between her and Edmonds, O'Bryan wrote. Edmonds sometimes supervised the children at the church's school, which the girl attended, according to the complaint.

Upon questioning, the girl told police about several acts of sexual abuse, including being made to wear a specific pair of stockings, being photographed in explicit positions and having Edmonds rub his genitals against her, according to the complaint.

Officers went into the Chesapeake house last month and found a couch and a pair of panty hose the victim described, O'Bryan wrote in the complaint.

An unnamed witness reported seeing Edmonds and the girl go into the Chesapeake house, lock the door and not answer the door for a good while after the witness knocked, according to the complaint.

The witness also reported seeing Edmonds pick the girl up in his car and drive her to the same house, O'Bryan wrote.

Edmonds told police he was never alone with the girl and that she had never been in his car, according to the complaint.

Edmonds was charged with one felony count of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian. He was being held at South Central Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond as of Tuesday night.
