TOLEDO, Ohio -- An Ohio jury has convicted a priest of murdering a nun 26 years ago in a hospital chapel.

The judge in Toledo then sentenced the Rev. Gerald Robinson to life in prison for killing Sister Margaret Ann Pahl in 1980. She was strangled, and stabbed in the chest in the shape of an upside-down cross.

Prosecutors said Robinson's anger over Pahl's domineering ways led to her killing.

The jury got the case Wednesday.

The bishop of the Ohio diocese in which Robinson served said he hopes "some measure of healing" will come from Robinson's conviction, while a niece of the victim said she was "relieved" after the verdict.

The prosecutor in the case said he was surprised jurors returned the verdict after less than seven hours of deliberation.

One of Robinson's defense lawyers said he was shocked at the outcome.

The judge told the 68-year-old priest he has 30 days to appeal the decision.
