San Fernando - A 46-year-old Sunland pastor accused of molesting two girls who attended his church was charged today with 11 felony counts.

Joseph Gary Torres, pastor of Iglesia Bautista Reformada, appeared briefly today in San Fernando Superior Court, but his arraignment was postponed to Oct. 5.

Torres, who was arrested Thursday at his parents' home in El Monte, was ordered to remain jailed on $2 million bail.

Torres faces one count each of continuous sexual abuse, sexual penetration by a foreign object, sodomy of a person under 18 and sodomy by the use of force; three counts of committing a lewd act upon a child and four counts of oral copulation of a person under 18.

The first girl was allegedly molested from July 2000, when she was 12 years old, until August, according to the District Attorney's Office.

The other girl was 14 when the alleged abuse began in July 2005. The alleged acts continued through last month, according to prosecutors.

Torres allegedly met both girls through the church.

Torres' son, a teenager, was arrested Friday on suspicion of molesting the girls, according to police. His case is expected to be handled in Juvenile Court, police said. CNS-09-18-2006 18:37
