  Former Principal Admits Indecent Assault

The former principal of one of the biggest boys' primary schools in Waterford city has pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting a boy six times in the early 1980s.

Con Desmond was principal of the De La Salle National School on Stephen Street in Waterford city in the early 1980s.

On three occasions, he indecently assaulted a boy in his office and on three other occasions, he indecently assaulted a boy somewhere between the De La Salle School and the Cleaboy road.

He left the school a number of years ago and became a priest.

He was living in Co Clare at the time of his arrest

At Waterford Circuit Court this afternoon, he pleaded guilty to the six charges.

He was remanded on continuing bail and is due back in court in Waterford in a fortnight's time when he will be sentenced.
