A former assistant pastor at a Pennsylvania church accused of a variety of sex crimes against young girls there has been ordered held in the Pima County Jail in lieu of $500,000.

Gerald Leroy Klever, 75, was arrested without incident at his Catalina Foothills home Wednesday afternoon by a team of detectives from the multi-agency Fugitive Investigative Strike Team, the Pima County Sheriff's Department sex crimes detail and the Springfield Township, Pa., Police Department.

He is charged in Pennsylvania with three counts of rape, three counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and one count each of indecent assault, indecent exposure and corruption of minors, according to a statement by the township.

Klever was the assistant pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Springfield, on the outskirts of Philadelphia, from 1977 to 1983, the statement said.

The incidents allegedly occurred during that time, said Deputy Dawn Barkman, a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman.

Barkman said Klever is not suspected of any sex crimes in the Tucson area.
