Eastland — The Rev. Thomas Teczar was sentenced to 25 years in prison today after being found guilty of the aggravated sexual assault of an 11-year-old boy.

Teczar, 65 had pleaded not guilty to charges that he abused the boy in the early 1990s in Ranger. He is a former Fort Worth diocese priest.

Teczar was convicted on three counts of sexual assault one count of indecency with a child. He was given 25 years for each of the assault charges and 15 for the indecency charge; all sentences will run concurrently. The Eastland County district attorney said Teczar will have to serve at least half of his 25-year sentence.

The victim, now in his late 20s, testified earlier today that Teczar used threats, persuasion and the use of his Mercedes to entice a then-11-year-old boy to have sex and keep it a secret.

Teczar told him he could "have me taken away from my mother," the man testified before a state district judge.

The man, who is now in his late 20s, is not being identified by the Star-Telegram because of the nature of the case. He testified Wednesday that he came forward in 2002 because he now has children of his own.

"I don't know what I would do if anything happened to them," he said. "I wanted to get him off the street and put him where he belongs."
