(Charleston-AP) March 8, 2007 — An attorney says nearly 50 people have come forward since the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston announced it would set aside as much as $12 million to settle claims of sexual abuse by priests and church workers.

Attorney David Haller represents some of the alleged victims. He says about four dozen people have come forward since the pool of money was announced in January.

A spokesman for the statewide diocese of more than 150,000 Catholics would not comment on the figures.

Word of the new alleged victims came a day before a scheduled court hearing to review the class-action settlement.
