Ridgely — A priest and three other defendants being sued by a former church employee have the complete faith and support of their parish, a parish council official said in a letter to parishioners.

The letter, written in February by Parish Council Executive Officer Ed Centofante, says the parish is covered by an insurance policy for lawsuits such as the $12 million suit filed against the Rev. Norman Carroll, who leads the St. Benedict and St. Elizabeth parishes.

Jaynie Taylor, former parish director of religious education, seeks damages from the parishes and the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington. She alleges that she lost her job because she wouldn't ignore hiring policies for a convicted sex offender. She also alleges that the Rev. Carroll made her take responsibility for an adult youth minister who was reportedly in a relationship with an underage girl.
