Fort Collins — The mother of the alleged victim in the sexual assault case involving a former priest testified on Wednesday.

The trial of Tim Evans, 44, started Monday. He's accused of sexually molesting a 17-year-old boy twice back in 1999 when he was a priest at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Fort Collins.

Specifically, Evans is accused of, one time, groping the young man's buttocks and, another time, reaching below his waistline and toward his groin.

On Wednesday, the alleged victim's mother said the accusations make her "sick physically and in my heart."

She said she was raised Catholic and taught priests were above the people and closer to God.

She also testified that at some point before her son went to police in 2004, Evans told her that if he had done anything, he did it when her son was 18.

Her son is now 25 and living in Ohio.

Evan's defense attorney, Andy Gavaldon, has said the young man's allegations are the result of anger he felt toward Evans and others.

On Wednesday, Gavaldon tried to show how that alleged anger led to a strained relationship between the accuser and his mother, eventually leading to the accuser leaving home and moving to Ohio to finish high school.

Evans is facing two counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, one count of sexual assault on a child – pattern of abuse, and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

He's also facing a similar charge in Jefferson County where he was a priest before he moved to Fort Collins.
