Dover, Del. (AP) — A state Senate committee is scheduled to hold a hearing today on legislation that would eliminate the statute of limitations for lawsuits resulting from child sexual abuse.

The bill would eliminate the two-year time limit for filing suit and allows cases in which the limit has already lapsed to be filed retroactively.

But it also provides reimbursement of attorney's fees to anyone falsely accused.

Critics say the bill unfairly targets the Catholic church, by leaving it open to a barrage of lawsuits from cases that span decades.

The Senate Health and Social Services Committee will consider the bill during a 2 p-m hearing.
