Newark — A former Newark minister who authorities caught with videotapes depicting juvenile sex pleaded guilty Wednesday afternoon to receiving child pornography.

David Waser, who was a minister at Newark's Second Church of Christ, is being detained while a pre-sentence investigation report is being completed. He will be sentenced at a later date.

As part of a plea agreement, Waser pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to one of his two felony charges and agreed to forfeit the 11 videotapes and his computer.

David Waser, left, pleaded guilty Wednesday afternoon to receiving child pornography and will be sentenced at a later date. His wife, Judy Waser, faces one count of attempted possession of child pornography.

His wife, Judy Waser, will face one count of attempted possession of child pornography at a trial set for April 16, also in front of Judge George C. Smith.

David and Judy Waser were arrested in August after David Waser's purchase of 11 videotapes, featuring scenes of children, some as young as 4, involved in various sex acts with other children and adults, was discovered by an undercover postal worker.

The postal inspector, Martin Arthur, told investigators on Aug. 9 that Judy Waser was curious about seeing what she thought was only one child pornography tape.

In a written admission disclosed the same day in U.S. District Court, David Waser admitted to exposing himself and touching young girls during the past 37 years.

David Waser said in a letter addressed to his church board his illegal purchases were caused by his long-term addiction to pornography and sexual abuse by his late mother.

David Waser became the minister at the Second Church of Christ in 2001.
