Chaput released the following statement today after a Larimer County jury convicted Timothy Evans, a former Fort Collins priest: "Today, the Larimer County District Court convicted Timothy Evans, former pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish in Ft. Collins, on sexual assault charges. "I express my sorrow for anyone who has been harmed by Timothy Evans' actions. On behalf of the Archdiocese of Denver, I offer my prayers for the victims and for Timothy Evans. We hope the conclusion of this trial begins a process of healing for all those affected by these sad events. "Testimony at the trial confirmed that the Archdiocese of Denver promptly reported the matter to the attention of law enforcement authorities when it first received the allegation of sexual abuse of a minor. I immediately removed Timothy Evans from ministry in the Archdiocese of Denver. The Archdiocese of Denver does not tolerate (permit or allow) any priest in ministry in the archdiocese with a credible claim of sexual abuse of a minor against him. We remain committed to these policies."
