Golden (AP) — A jury was selected Monday for the second sexual assault trial of a former Roman Catholic pastor convicted last week on separate charges of sexually assaulting a young parishioner in Fort Collins.

Timothy Joseph Evans, 44, is charged with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust for allegedly fondling a 16-year-old boy between 1995 and 1997 while assigned to the Spirit of Christ Parish in Arvada.

Opening statements were set for Tuesday.

Evans was convicted last week in Larimer County District Court of two counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and one count of sexual assault on a child with a pattern of abuse. He faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced May 30.

Evans was removed from parish ministry at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church in Fort Collins in 2002 and he was removed from active ministry in 2003.

During the Fort Collins trial, a man testified he was molested twice as a teenager in 1999 in the rectory where Evans lived. Evans' attorneys said the alleged victim was acting out of anger and that Evans had tried to help him.
