A priest who admitted having sex with a Polish student later found murdered in his church has finished giving evidence after four days in the witness box.

Father Gerry Nugent, 63, reiterated a denial he played any part in Angelika Kluk's murder.

The 23-year-old student's body was found under the floor of St Patrick's Church, Glasgow on 29 September, 2006.

Peter Tobin, 60, has denied raping and murdering Ms Kluk and concealing her body within the church.

Father Nugent told the court his affair with Ms Kluk was mutual.

She had been staying in the chapel house of the church to fund her studies in Gdansk.

Father Nugent was questioned by advocate depute Dorothy Bain, prosecuting, who said that church musician Sarah Howie denied having a sexual relationship with him, as he had claimed in his earlier evidence.

The priest agreed there had been no sexual intercourse but insisted there had been intimacy.

The murder charge alleges Mr Tobin attacked Angelika between 24 September and 29 September, raped her, battered her and repeatedly struck her with a knife.

It is alleged he hid the body under the floor of the church in an attempt to defeat the ends of justice.

In a special defence read to the jury Mr Tobin admits having sex with the Polish student with her consent.

The trial continues.
