Glens Falls — Prosecutors have agreed to drop a felony sex abuse charge against a former probation officer who was accused of having improper sexual relations with three boys.

Bradford K. Overton, 30, of Glens Falls instead pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges of forcible touching, agreeing to serve 6 months in Warren County Jail and 6 years on probation.

He is to be sentenced May 22 by Glens Falls Judge Richard Tarantino.

Overton pleaded guilty in connection with allegations he fondled the buttocks of two boys, ages 15 and 16, at his home last summer. He knew the boys through a Queensbury church where he was a youth group leader.

He also was charged with first-degree sexual abuse, a felony, for allegedly having sexual contact with a 9-year-old boy he met while working as a Warren County Child Protective Services caseworker in 2004-2005.

Washington County District Attorney Kevin Kortright, who handled the case as a special prosecutor, said the felony charge was dropped because of problems with evidence that he could not publicly divulge.

Overton had vehemently denied any improper contact with the 9-year-old, his lawyer said.

Overton was a Warren County probation officer at the time of his arrest, but resigned shortly after he was charged.

Overton specialized in juvenile cases, but police said there were no allegations of improper conduct by Overton while working as a probation officer.

Overton's lawyer, Garfield Raymond, did not return phone calls for comment on the case last week or on Tuesday.

Overton is free on his own recognizance pending sentencing.
