Police yesterday arrested Father Peter Grant formerly of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Berkhamsted following allegations of sexual assault on a 15-year-old boy.

The 58-year-old priest from Bovingdon was arrested in St Albans after the allegations of assault in the Berkhamsted area between January and February this year.

As the Gazette was going to press no charges had been brought against the clergyman.

Father Peter left the area several weeks ago and moved to the parish in Burnt Oak, Barnet.

The Diocese of Westminster confirmed in last week's Gazette that the priest had been withdrawn from the ministry after the allegations were made.
