A Roman Catholic priest at a Burnt Oak church has admitted four charges of sexually touching a 15-year-old boy.

Father Peter Grant, 58, of Balfour Mews, Bovingdon, had been serving at Our Lady of the Annunciation, in Thirleby Road, for six weeks when the allegations came to light last month.

The offences, which took place between January and March this year, occurred in Bovingdon and do not relate to his time in Burnt Oak. He admitted the offences at St Albans Magistrates Court on Wednesday last week.

A spokesman for the Diocese of Westminster said: "The Diocese deeply regrets the hurt caused to the victim. The offences carried out by Father Grant are a grievous betrayal of his responsibilities as a priest.

"As soon as the allegation came to light, Father Grant was withdrawn from ministry and the Diocesan child protection team has been fully co-operating with the police investigation. Up until this time, the Diocese had not been made aware of any allegations of abuse involving Father Grant."

He said the Diocese was making strenuous' efforts to ensure the safety and protection of all children in its parishes.

Grant was bailed and will be sentenced at St Albans Crown Court on June 1.
