A priest from Spotsylvania County, Va., who turned 51 years old Monday got a birthday present he wasn't expecting.

A Louisa County judge revoked the Rev. Rodney Rodis' $25,000 bond. He will have to stay behind bars until his trial in October.

A former parishioner's daughter spotted Rodis getting on a flight at Richmond International Airport heading to New Mexico to visit his family, prosecutors said.

Defense lawyers said Rodis went to New Mexico to visit a sick family member. The judge, however, said there were procedures in place that Rodis did not use. Because Rodis took it upon himself to fly to New Mexico, the judge said it violated the terms of his bond.

Rodis, a native of the Philippines, has been charged with embezzling thousands of dollars from the St. Jude and Immaculate Conception Catholic churches in Louisa County.
