Golden - Former Arvada priest Timothy Evans will spend four years in prison on top of the minimum 14-year sentence handed down Wednesday in Larimer County.

He was sentenced to the additional time this morning in Jefferson County.

He is the first priest in Colorado to be convicted of sexual assault since the clergy-abuse crisis hit the U.S. Catholic Church in 2002.

Timothy Joseph Evans told the judge Wednesday in Fort Collins that he'll appeal his conviction.

Evans, 44, of Loveland, was convicted by two juries of sexually assaulting minors during counseling sessions.

In Jefferson County, he was found guilty in April of groping a 16-year-old boy a decade ago.

He sexually molested a 17-year-old boy twice in 1999 while he was a priest at St. Elizabth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Fort Collins, a jury decided in March.

Evans was ordained in 1993. He served in 1996 at Spirit of Christ Catholic Community in Arvada and from 1996 to 1998 at Our Lady of Fatima in Lakewood. He moved to St. Elizabeth Seton.
