The sister of Ulster child rapist Billy Adams has warned the authorities not to make the same mistake twice.

Sonia Erwin fears her brother - currently awaiting sentence in Liverpool for the multiple rapes of a girl when she was aged just 11 and 12 - will again swing a transfer to a jail in Northern Ireland.

"If there is a loophole which allows Billy to take advantage of the 50 per cent remission rule here he'll take it, he's a master at manipulating the system," said Sonia.

The government is planning to end 50pc remission for high risk offenders in Northern Ireland following a superb campaign by the Belfast Telegraph.

But Sonia fears serial child sex offender Adams could exploit the system if the new rules are not retrospective.

Adams, who recently turned 40, is due to be sentenced on June 14 alongside his priest lover Fr Jeremiah McGrath, who was convicted of aiding Adams by bankrolling his grooming of the girl victim.

Sonia hopes the judge will recommend her brother serves at least 30 years in jail and that he will stay in England.

But she fears a repeat of what happened after Adams' previous conviction in Dublin in 1998 for the rape of a eight-year-old Northern Ireland girl.

"He would have had to serve at least nine years in the Republic, but he knew that by transferring to a jail in Northern Ireland, he could be free in six years," said Sonia.

"His closest relatives were not consulted about his transfer. I was furious when I found out.

"That can't be allowed to happen again. No one here wants him."

Before his release Sonia warned that Adams was an incurable, dangerous child predator who would strike again.

Sonia previously successfully campaigned, with the backing of Sunday Life and her MP Lady Sylvia Hermon, to plug a loophole in the law which had allowed sex offenders, like Adams, who were convicted in the Republic to avoid signing the Sex Offenders' Register, when they moved to Northern Ireland.

She is due to meet Lady Hermon again next week to discuss her concerns that Adams could again try to exploit the jail system.
