A former Newark minister was sentenced to 10 years in prison today for ordering and receiving 11 videotapes containing child pornography.

David Waser, 58, had faced a maximum of 20 years in prison from U.S. District Court Judge George C. Smith of Columbus.

He pleaded guilty on March 21 to one count of receiving child pornography.

Waser was pastor of Second Church of Christ in Newark until he was removed in August. His wife, Judy, 54, is awaiting trial on child pornography charges.

Smith also ordered Waser to receive treatment for sexual addiction and to register as a sexual offender when he leaves prison for five years of supervised release.

The Wasers were arrested last summer as part of a child pornography sting in which the U.S. Postal Service Inspection Service offered the videotapes for sale over the Internet.

Mr. Waser has been jailed since his arrest while his wife was placed on electronic monitoring and freed.
