A suspended Holy Cross High School principal was indicted by a Monmouth County Grand Jury on theft by deception charges, according to a letter the high school community received Monday.

Joseph Lemme, who was suspended without pay in November, is accused of stealing more than $400,000 from book sales and student activities. Lemme, a Wall Township resident, is also accused of falsifying school records.

The letter was sent to the community by Judith Caviston, the Secretary for Catholic Education in the Diocese of Trenton.

Caviston wrote that the Diocese has worked to reclaim the funds allegedly stolen by Lemme.
