Chicago (AP) - A Catholic school principal who criticized the Archdiocese of Chicago for its handling of sexual abuse allegations against the school's former parish priest has been fired.

Barbara Westrick has accused the archdiocese of trying to make her a scapegoat for its reaction to accusations against the Reverend Daniel McCormack, who is charged with criminal sexual abuse.

Yesterday Westrick lost her job as principal of Our Lady of the Westside school.

Archdiocese spokeswoman Colleen Dolan says the decision to fire Westrick was based on the current pastor's evaluation of her performance. She says it had nothing to do with history.

Westrick sent a letter to parents of the school's students last week saying that her future with the school was uncertain. On Wednesday she said she expected to lose her job.
