Bloomington — A July 16 jury trial date was set Friday for a James Love, a substitute teacher in Twin City schools and minister who is charged with sedating and sexually abusing four teenage boys.

Love, 37, faces four counts of aggravated battery and four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. The accusations involve alleged incidents at Love's home earlier this year.

Assistant State's Attorney Michelle Brooks filed a motion Friday seeking hair and saliva samples from Love for DNA testing. The defense agreed to comply with that request.

Love smiled to a group of supporters in the courtroom, many of them members of Bloomington's Mount Pisgah Baptist Church where Love serves as a minister.

Love's entrance to local classrooms came about five years ago as a volunteer with a State Farm Insurance Co. program to provide free teaching assistance to allow teachers to attend conferences. He later was hired as a paid substitute for Normal-based Unit 5 and Bloomington District 87 schools. Love is employed by the insurance firm.

Love remains in jail in lieu of paying $40,000. His next court date is July 12 for a final pretrial hearing.
