December 2006: A former treasurer at Calvary Chapel in Merritt Island is charged with grand theft and more than 100 counts of fraud. Prosecutors say Rudolph E. Heide, 77, of Cocoa stole $1.2 million in tithes and offerings to pay for lavish vacations. The case is pending.

September 2005: A former administrative assistant for the Lakeland-based Florida Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church was charged with stealing more than $716,000 by filing false insurance claims. Virginia Lynn Albritton, 54, of Lakeland is serving an 8-year prison sentence.

July 2001: A former bookkeeper at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Greater Orlando was sentenced for stealing more than $100,000 from the collection plate. Evelyn Russell, 46, of DeBary served about 14 months in prison. She is on probation until 2016.
