Davenport (IA) — The governing board of St. Ambrose University, a Roman Catholic institution in Davenport, Iowa, voted today to remove the name of the late Bishop Gerald O'Keefe from its library. The university's Board of Directors acted in response to a request that the name be stricken from the building because Bishop O'Keefe failed to "take the necessary precautions to protect children from clergy sexual abuse that occurred during his tenure as bishop of the Davenport Diocese," according to a statement issued by the university. The library will now be known as the St. Ambrose Library.
