Uganda — The State Minister for Economic Monitoring, Mr Morris Kagimu Kiwanuka, has wanred a newly ordained Catholic priest to distance himself from young women so as to retain his celibacy vows.

He said several Catholic priests were embroiled in sex scandals after failing to uphold their celibacy vows. Mr Kagimu was speaking at the ordination party of Father Deusdedit Ssekabira at Nyendo in Masaka Municipality.

"Don't open the door to Satan. Let Satan break your door and take you by force if he can," Mr Kagimu who represented vice president Gilbert Bukenya said.

He advised the priest against employing young and beautiful women at the parish saying they might lead him into temptation.

Said Mr Kagimu, "Employ old and ugly ones who are no longer sexually attractive to cook your food or do secretarial work. You see, when a butterfly plays around a lamp for too long it eventually gets burnt."

On social life, Mr Kagimu advised Fr Ssekabira to be careful while socialising. "Your job as a priest in a way is like ours, we politicians. You have to know how far you must go. Drink alcohol moderately or never drink it at all. Otherwise you might find yourself in an embrace with an irresistible woman who will whisper into your ears maama singa tewali ffaaza wandizadde abaana balungi. Kale wakula bulungi (If you were not a priest you could have fathered good looking children. You are handsome), Mr Kagimu a former seminarian said much to the amusement of the gathering.

As he spoke, the large audience that included nuns appeared shocked but interested. A half drunk man in the background shouted bagambeko( warn them).

Fr. Ssekabira , 25, was ordained priest at Kitovu Cathedral on Saturday.
