Australia — A former Melbourne Catholic priest has been sentenced to seven years and three months jail for sexual assaulting several young boys.

A County Court jury found Terence Pidoto of Bacchus Marsh guilty of a total of 11 charges, including rape and buggery.

The 62-year-old committed the offences between 1972 and 1985, while working at St Bede's Church in North Balwyn and St Clare's in Box Hill.

Judge Ross Howie ordered Pidoto serve at least five years before becoming eligible for parole.
