Our town's David Clohessy, national director of SNAP — Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests — has received the Lifetime Achievement in Advocacy Award from the Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma. Clohessy, 50, got the award at the organization's 12th international conference in San Diego. Married and the father of two sons, Clohessy lives in St. Louis. He grew up in Moberly, Mo., where he and some of his brothers were abused by a priest. He has been working with abuse survivors since the 1980s. HOW CONTEMPORARY: Gov. Matt Blunt was recently in town on business and took some time off for an arts detour with his wife, Melanie Blunt. Melanie is honorary chair of Missouri Citizens for the Arts. They were invited to tour the Contemporary Art Museum with director Paul Ha, and they took in the special exhibition there by Maya Lin, best known for her design of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The Blunts enjoyed their tour and said they were especially impressed with the museum's unique community outreach education program.
