TULSA, Okla. — Richard Roberts said he is confident his family will be cleared of accusations Oral Roberts University paid for their horses, hot tubs and plane trips.

Roberts, the son of 89-year-old Oral Roberts, issued a statement Friday after the university announced plans to hire additional auditors in light of a law suit filed last week by three former ORU professors, The Tulsa World reported Saturday.

The suit filed against ORU, Roberts and three university administrators, alleges the Roberts family used ORU money to pay for Roberts' housing, horses, hot tubs, plane trips, remodeling of dorm rooms for Roberts' daughters, $51,206 worth of clothes, and phone bills, among other expenses,

Roberts said he pays for his family's personal expenses, contrary to allegations in the suit filed in Tulsa County District Court.

"Any expenses, including trips, errands, food, etc., deemed personal are charged back to me and are paid personally by me on a monthly basis," Roberts said in the statement.
