October 9, 2007 …amp;quot; In response to recent assaults on the integrity and ministry of Monsignor John Urell, a steering committee called “Friends of Monsignor Urell” is forming to provide a forum for those who wish to offer support and prayers for Msgr. Urell. The group is composed of private citizens and has no funding or authority from and Diocesan organization.

According to the group’s spokesperson and long time friend, John Hanna, “Over the years, Monsignor Urell has been a devoted priest, pastor, and counselor to thousands of people. We hope this group can offer some comfort to Monsignor Urell as he struggles with severe anxiety. We are praying for him during his hospitalization and will offer him our support upon his return,” said Hanna.

The Group has no involvement with any current or past litigation against the Diocese of Orange. “We are deeply saddened by the cases of sexual misconduct that have come to light over the years and we continue to pray for the healing of all those involved,” said Hanna. “However, it is fundamental to Catholic teaching that we forgive and minister to those who are suffering and in pain”.

Anyone wishing to help is encouraged to send their name, address and contact information to friendsofmsgrjohn@gmail.com.
