Dozens of Santa Barbara nuns are being evicted from their convent as a result of the priest pedophile scandal.

The Los Angeles Archdiocese issued the eviction notice, saying it needs the money to help pay a 370-million-dollar settlement to the victims of pedophile priests.

In a letter, the archdiocese told the nuns they must leave by December 31st.

The Bethany Convent in Santa Barbara is worth an estimated 700-thousand dollars. The archdiocese plans to sell a total of 50 properties to pay the settlement.

But the nuns aren't just losing their home. They'll be assigned to work in some other community.

The archdiocese says the nun's order has two other convents in California where they could live.

But the community wants to raise money to answer the sisters' prayers -- to live out their days in the community they have spent a lifetime serving.
