The Rev. Rodney L. Rodis, the retired Roman Catholic priest accused of stealing $500,000 from his Louisa County parishioners, will plead guilty next week rather than go to trial.

U.S. District Judge Richard L. Williams has canceled the bench trial that was to start Thursday. He scheduled a plea-agreement hearing for Rodis at 2 p.m. Friday.

The agreement with prosecutors had not been filed yesterday. Rodis' initial plea was not guilty when he was arraigned Sept. 6.

Rodis, 51, was indicted by a federal grand jury Aug. 21 on 13 counts — eight of mail fraud, two of wire fraud and three of money laundering. The indictment alleges that Rodis wired $515,231 in embezzled money to addresses in the Philippines, his native country.
