A man referenced as pastor, whom police arrested twice in six years on sex charges involving children, has pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of an underage boy.

Victor Pickett, 33, of 217 Eighth St. S.W. entered the plea to first-degree sexual abuse Monday in Morgan County Circuit Court, judicial records show.

A plea agreement with the district attorney's office will give Pickett a five-year sentence. He has applied for probation. His sentencing date is Jan. 29.

A grand jury indicted Pickett in October 2006 on the charge, which stemmed from a child talking to his teacher.

A Decatur police detective said in April 2006 the child reported to his teacher that a man he knew as 'Pastor P' inappropriately touched him. Police later identified Pickett as the man, according to reports.

The detective said Pickett was tutoring children and during one of the sessions with the young boy he had sexual contact with the child.

Pickett's tutoring program was not part of an organized program connected to a church or any other institution, police said.

This is not Pickett's first meeting with the law regarding sex charges involving children.

In 2000, a grand jury indicted him on first-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse and second-degree sexual abuse, but later authorities dismissed the charges.

At that time, police said Pickett was running a church out of his apartment and picking up young males to take them to church.

Pickett said that one of the families he was helping set him up after he stopped providing financial assistance. He said the people who set him up for prosecution were drug users.
